In June 2011, after a 15-month grassroots fundraising campaign and your astronomically generous donations, Friends of Arlington’s Planetarium saved the planetarium from being closed! Now that we have saved the planetarium, Friends of the Planetarium is working with Arlington Public Schools to ensure that the $402,800 raised is used for new seating, a digital projector, digital full dome planetarium shows, and other planetarium theatre equipment.
Friends of Arlington’s Planetarium also plans to continue hosting community events, such as our popular Sunday Science lecture series, Nights at the Planetarium, and more! We also plan to purchase new digital programming for community shows, sponsor planetarium training sessions for Arlington Public School (APS) teachers, and start a scholarship for APS students; our fundraising target for 2012 is $58,000. With your generous support, we’ll be able to accomplish these goals. Please consider making a tax deductible donation to Friends of Arlington’s Planetarium, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, today to support science education and outreach in the DC Metro area!

Become a Major Donor! Donations of $1,000 or more will be listed on large wall plaques mounted at the entrance of Arlington’s Planetarium. The categories of Major Donors are listed here. Dedicate a seat in the new planetarium! Commemorate a friend or family member, express your support for the planetarium, or make your opinion known by having your words engraved on an elegant brass nameplate attached to the armrest of one of the new seats in the planetarium. Great cause! My son raised $56 for the planetarium at his lemonade and cookie stand on Saturday. I am making a matching contribution, so we will be sending in $112 this week to the cause. He loves the planetarium and hopes that it stays open.
