The “Seat beneath the Stars” campaign provides a way for members of the local community to participate in the effort to preserve the planetarium and to have their support recognized in a tangible and permanent fashion. Donations will be accepted, in the amount of $1,000, to dedicate the new seats for the planetarium, and each such donation will entitle the donor to have a brass nameplate engraved to reflect their intentions. The nameplates will be affixed to the armrests of the planetarium seats in a visible location, and will remain in place for as long as the seats are used. When these are eventually replaced, the dedications will be mounted on a plaque, to be prominently and permanently displayed on the wall of the planetarium.

Making a Donation:

Complete the Seat beneath the Stars Application, indicating the desired dedication, and deliver it, either in person or by mail, along with a check for $1,000, payable to the Friends of the Planetarium. Applications will be date stamped as they are received, and will be considered in that order. (Please see the application for additional details.)

A total of 55 seat dedications may be reserved through this campaign. Accepted donations will be recorded and deposited in the Friends bank account, where they will be held in escrow for new planetarium seating.

Deductibility of Donations:

All donations to the Friends of the Planetarium for dedications of seats will be fully deductible.

Description of Nameplates:

• 1-1/4″ x 3″ .032″ (thickness) Special Oval Screw-On Satin Brass Nameplate
• 1-2 lines of engraving (font to be determined)

Acceptable Dedications:

Dedications may occupy one to two lines of engraving. Suggested forms of dedication include:

• In Memory of (name of individual or individuals).
• In Honor of (name of individual, individuals, or group).
• From (individual, family, or group).

The Seat Dedication Campaign is intended for private individuals or families. Corporate donors are urged to consider donating through the Major Donors Campaign. The Friends of Arlington’s Planetarium reserves the right to approve or disapprove requested dedications for any reason. If a proposed dedication is not acceptable, the donor will be given the option of revising it, or having their donation returned.
