Professional astronomers are not the only ones who make great discoveries and contributions in the field. Astronomy has a long, rich history of “amateurs” discovering comets, asteroids, even planets! They track variable stars and supernovae. Even those without their own telescopes can help. Sets of data too large to be sifted through by mission scientists on a variety of projects have been made available to the public online. Anyone with access to a computer can now become a citizen astronomer. Lecture is presented by Amy Fredericks of the US Naval Observatory
Appropriate for children aged 9 and older and adults. Doors open at 3:45pm. No admission after lecture begins.
